Style Tips To Hide a Bloated CF Tummy!

As someone with Cystic Fibrosis I suffer from an eternally bloated stomach that makes it look like I’m at least a little big pregnant all the time, which I’m not really fond of! So over the years I’ve found some clothing pieces that help hide my tummy a bit that I wanted to share with you! These should work for any bloating issues but for sure I know that us CFers can have the thinner frame + big bloated tummy combo!

First, always look for something with stretch (you should see “spandex” or “elastane” on the materials tag) and second, looser fitting clothes are you friend! From my experience you can do one of two major things: either a) wear a high-waisted skirt or pair of pants with the top tucked in or b) wear a top with a tie-waist over top of pants. A high-waisted bottom can help hide your tummy, especially in unison with a belt or tie of some sort. A tie-waisted top will do the same thing but you can wear any kind of bottom with it!

Let’s look at a few examples so you have an idea:

Skirts like this one are great for hiding a bloated stomach. They’re also stretchy and comfortable (wear simple cotton shorts underneath to avoid thigh chafing)! Skirts with pleated also help create the illusion of not having bloating. Try to avoid tight, clingy, maxi pencil skirts because they will highlight your stomach!

High-waisted culottes like this, or any other high-waisted pant with some stretch will always be your friend! The addition of a tie waist or a belt also distracts from the tummy and can make you look flatter. (Or at least people might just think any bulk they see is from the bow tied into a belt and not some sort of hidden pregnancy ahah)

If you’re not a fan of wearing high-waisted bottoms then you should try a top with a tie of it’s own! Having a defined waist here will make the bottom, bloated, part of your stomach a little less notable as the fabric will not cling as much. If you have a small bust you should also look into “empire waist” tops and dresses which are tighter just under the breasts and are flowy the rest of the way down!

I hope these tips help y’all! Feel free to comment with any questions! ❤
