As a queer woman it’s so hard to not only find good books about women who love women, but also ones which have happy endings! To help you all out, I’m going to share 5 of my favourite books/comics which manage to give our WLW characters the happy endings they deserve. (Click the pics for easy Amazon links)!
Princess Princess Ever After by Katie O’Neill
Could this comic be any cuter? I read the original years ago on Tumblr, and jumped at the chance to buy it in book form when it came out. With ridiculously adorable art, this comic tells us the story of a princess who finds love with another princess as they both challenge the roles society says they must fill. An easy, fun read with a good ending and great art! An easy choice for a refreshing take on queer romance.
Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour
Do you like movies? Do you enjoy knowing what goes on behind the scenes in Hollywood, but with lesbians? Then this is the book for you! A super sweet coming-of-age romance (but not a coming out story! For once) with a mystery and love behind the silver screen. If you’re looking for a modern-day romance where queerness is just accepted and people are loved then this is just what the doctor ordered!
The Dark Wife by e.e Deimer
Did someone say “Lesbian Greek Mythology”? As a classicist this is what I have been yearning for my whole life to be honest. A quicker read and an awesome retelling of the classic story of Persephone and Hades minus the misogyny and violence against women. This a super fun book, with a beautiful eternal romance (no one dies here!) and cool classical elements. Totally a must read for a lovers of women and of mythology!
Ash by Malinda Lo
An even more fantastical cinderella story, but this time, with lesbians. Dive into a fantasy world where a young girl must encounter fae, but also romance. This is another story where homophobia isn’t real, no one dies, and happy endings abound! If you enjoy fantasy novels, fairytales, and fancy balls then this should be right up your ally!
The Queen Below
Did you think I would be happy with just ONE lesbian retelling of the Persephone/Hades myth? Well you were wrong. Here is another amazing retelling of this myth. This is a free book on Wattpadd that is still a work in progress, but I am in LOVE and am eagerly waiting for the day I can purchase an ebook! This is a free tale filled with beautiful prose and romance! Make sure to support the author, and if you can, purchase the book when it comes out! For now, take a dive into this great tale while chilling with your phone in bed and drinking some warm tea!
